Weightage in Education system

It was really nice to know that some one is thinking of reducing the existing reservation menace and the resulting hatred among groups in a more meaningful way.

LokSatta Party's proposition of

10% marks weitage based on four criteria.
Poverty
Parental education
Rural living
School attended (Government school or low cost private school)

But may be the " poverty" issue will become a menace like white card and make the new proposition go in an unintended direction. Care should be taken to formulate the new changes. We should remember that Dr Ambedkar's Constitution was so wisely drafted that any change proposal should be an improvement over it

Another point. Is there really an end to this? The rural living in all the places is not same. Then how to tackle that? More serious problem like caste resvation is making one ignore the seroiusness of problem that will result with woman reservation. How meaningfully is it serving its purpose.

We really get hopes for brighter future with Dr JayaPrakash Gaaru's blog post like the one given in
http://loksatta.blogspot.com/2006/05/can-merit-and-social-justice-be.html

Hope these are not just visionary ideas but put into practice.

Greater Participation of Women in Politics

LokSatta Party's web site with JP's bolg includes a post "Dr. JP Calls for Greater Participation of Women in Politics"(on Feb 2, 2007 )

It says that more woman participation is needed. But to demonstrate what has been advocated to public, should have been demonstrated with the spouses of their active party men also participating in the active politics. But wives of most(or all?) of the senior party members like Mr Verma or Bandaru Ramamohan Rao are not actively seen in Lok Satta Party activities or campaigns!

Lok Satta Party was started on Gandhi Jayanti. Kastura was an active participant of Gandhi's activities.

The Mahila Satta isn't really impresive with the exuberance of Change for betterment that is seen in JayaPrakash Narayan gaaru. With all the apologies one gets an impression of attending a Perantam or some middle class Kitty.

I think we can clearly see the differece between giving and rightfully getting. The Mahila Satta are given the opportunity.

Why Dr JayaPrakash or Lok Satta Party doesn't think of making women "leaders" by rigorous training? The hotch potch 2 or 3 days training is not sufficient to make a real impact except for filling the numbers. People like me expect Dr Jayaprakash Narayan of Lok Satta think differently in all the aspects and initiate new culture in the women politics.

A BPO - call centre ensures that its employee get sufficient training and checks their imparted skills by testing them on the feild. A micro finance venture trains its enterprenuers to ensure success and leadership. But in no political party do we see such professional training.

When we hear Dr JayaPrakash talking about "to change the rules of political engagement" or "Redefining Politics", people look forward to see some real innovative things in the party.

Hopes and expectations from JayaPrakash and LoksattaParty

In the frustration and hopelessness came a party which thinks that there needs a change in the rules of the game of Politics.

Oh! Great relief.

Let us first take a look at why educated or coomon people shun away from politics. (I am not from Political Science or Socialogy or ...I don't know what other branch)

In the existing Political scenario, the party expects the people to work voluntarily. An educated common person cannot even imagine spending his time not using for some revenue generating activities like bussiness or jobr higher studies. The scene is such a dirty scene, any association with it is viewed with a suspicion or probelm creator.

Take an imaginary person who completed a graduation degree. In a normal situation what
would the sons or daughters including of LSP think or parents allow them to pursue. Either
a job or Post graduation or starting/taking care of Bussiness. If you are in bussiness
supporting one party will only prove to be detrimental if aother party comes into power.

So who is left to work for the party. The rich who can afford to spend time without money
or who can withstand the stigma of being attached to a party.

If a person has a gap in his resume he/she has to satisfy with convincing support how it was
used or why the gap has come. Even educated women face a problem because of this gap
though they say it is for taking care of children or family. Imagine if some one has a gap
because of association to Politics.

So 80 to 90 % of educated are going away from politics. Instead the political parties should
have a collective fund and generate employment to educated youth and they can be
encouraged to take active part in the party politics.

But unfortunatley LSP which vouches to bring radical changes thinks of collecting donations
and taking voluntary services like existing parties.

What was surprising to note is most people educated or uneducated also think that the political parties should work on donations. Then how much is much? How long people can continue doing voluntary service. Could it be that they are thinking it as investment to get back after they come to power? Otherwise why do we encourage such volunteerism. After all a volunteer in a temple has a more voice. So in a way the leaders are fixed. So the people should donate for thier present expenditures like travel, phone etc and win them as leaders with great sacrifice.

All these should be addressed by Dr JP and LSP to win the educated mass that it is really intending to radically change the rules of the game. Else it can be a new bottle with old wine.
